Hold You Against Me
Skye Warren
(Stripped #4)
Publication date: May 31st 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance
From New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren comes a sexy new novel in the Stripped series…
Once upon a time the daughter of a mafia king fell in love with a foot soldier.
This fairy tale didn’t have a happy ending.
My sister and I barely managed to escape alive, and we’ve lived in relative hiding ever since. I’m safe now, but I can never forget the boy who gave his life to save mine.
Except there are whispers that he’s still alive. And he’s fighting a war.
Even knowing the risks, I have to find him. I have to find some way to protect him, the way he protected me. But he isn’t the boy I left behind. He’s a violent man. A criminal. And he’s been waiting for me—the final pawn in a dark game of survival and love.

EXCERPT:
Something moves me gently, constant and rhythmic like waves. I’m warm. There’s something soft curling around my arms, wrapped inside my fists. Padding beneath my cheek that smells like home.
An unnatural darkness weighs down on me, keeping me from waking up—a demon’s whisper in my ear. You’re warm, you’re safe. Sleep.
But something is wrong.
I remember falling asleep, so suddenly, remember drinking water that I hadn’t filled. And I remember the phone call from Amy telling me that Giovanni’s alive. Impossible.
Awareness pricks my skin like a cold breeze. Wherever I am, I’m not alone.
I blink rapidly, forcing my eyes open. They adjust to the darkness quickly, taking in the tinted windows on either side and the wide leather bench curving beneath me. I’m in a car. A limo, to be exact. And it’s moving.
On the opposite side of the long space, a large body reclines. I can see the wide stance of his legs, the pale white of his shirt. A suit jacket tossed beside his hip. His face is hidden in the shadows of the vehicle.
I was raised by the head of the Las Vegas mafia, the capo. I grew up around guns and violence, so I know when a man is armed. It’s the way he holds himself, the warning shimmering around him like a dark halo.
This man is armed and extremely dangerous.
Every muscle in my body tenses. My mind still swims in thick water, because I must have been drugged. He drugged me, this faceless man. Why did he take me? It won’t be anything good, that’s for sure.
Even worse, I suspect this has something to do with my past, with my family. It’s messed up that I’d rather be taken by some random psycho. But at least then I’d have a chance of getting away.
“Who are you?” I demand, my voice hoarse from whatever drugs they gave me.
There’s a long pause, the weight of his regard as heavy as a finger trailing down my neck.
“Have I really changed that much, bella, that you don’t recognize me?”

Love can heal and love can make you soar, but Nate’s expression said my love had broken him. The thought of Nate not knowing how much I wanted him back shattered me. As his eyes filled with utter confusion, he waited for me to continue.
“Then why didn’t you ask me?” Nate scowled. “What changed your mind? Or should I say who changed your mind?” He didn’t wait for me to answer. Instead, he gripped his hair with his fists and walked away.
“It isn’t what you think.” I searched for the best words to explain.
I might have screwed up finding the right words. It was hard to concentrate with him standing there shirtless, water dripping slowly down his chest from his wet hair. God, he looked sexy as hell. He had no idea what he was doing to me. I wanted to lick every single drop. In my mind, my hands traveled all over his toned chest, wiping away the water like I was his towel.
Nate glared at me, unbelieving, as if he expected me to lie. Then he rushed to me and punched the wall with an expression of rage I’d never seen. His body so close to mine, almost touching, caused my focus to slip away.
“Don’t fuck with me, Olie,” he gritted through his teeth. “It isn’t what I think? I wasn’t given the chance to think.” He pointed to himself. “There wasn’t much to think when I saw Troy practically on top of you.”
I had known that moment would cause me problems. Nate’s expression eased when I began to tremble. His anger and how he’d reacted seemed to surprise him, too. I found my composure again and continued before he had another episode that was so out of character. There was no going back.
“I couldn’t tell you because of Troy. Not because I wanted to be with him, but because I was scared of him.”
“What?” His eyebrows pinched at the center, and his pitch rose again. “What do you mean you were afraid of him? Did he threaten you? Did he hurt you?”
When I nodded through unrelenting tears, Nate guided me to the bed with his hand on my back. I wiped my cheeks and sat next to him. His proximity drove me insane, especially when my hand accidently grazed his chest.
“Tell me everything.” he said softly, but it was more of a demand. I could tell his anger had turned toward Troy and away from me.

Hello!

Hello, my naughty lovelies!

Just wanted to share a quick update. As of June 1st I’ll be back to posting on the blog again.

For those that have only recently found me in 2014 I woke up one morning and fell straight onto the floor. Before that I was using a cane to get around and sometimes for things that required lots of walking a wheelchair. I’ve dealt with a spinal injury for almost 12 years, but out of the blue it took me down entirely. To wake up one day and physically be unable to walk was terrifying. I went through specialists, tests, surgery, home nurses & physical therapists, re-learned to walk & drive, and finally moved on to out of the house PT 3-4 times a week for 2 hours a day.

Very soon after surgery my husband was forced to deploy leaving me to take care of our two kids on my own while going through recovery. He bought a freezer and with the help of some of his co-workers/friends and my husband’s mother and father they stocked the house with freezer meals and the cabinets with food.  Hubs bought a huge plastic container and filled it with 3 or 4 50lbs bags of dog food and one of the guys when it started running low came to the house and refilled it.

My wonderful mother in law was waiting for me to need the freezer full of prepared meals to run out and by the time it did I was able to prepare easy meals on my own. She would still stop by and handle any chopping/slicing/dicing for me for a little awhile. My amazing neighbors on their own helped with the yard and were there if I needed simple things around the house. It kept my in-laws from having to drive 30mins for changing a light bulb or something minor. I had to learn to use my own body after surgery and the hardest part I had to learn to accept help.

It’s been a long hard road and while he was deployed we found we were to move in less than two weeks of him returning. I was stuck moving away from my team of doctors, all three of my physical therapists, family, friends. I couldn’t help with any of it and I have always been a do it myself woman.

I needed time after the move this year to adjust to all the changes. The most challenging stressful thing was to find a new doctor that I was comfortable with and could monitor my “new health.” I know some of you know all this since I’ve been updating on Facebook or we’ve been talking in emails or messages. I’ve been moved by the support I’ve gotten through everything so I know some of you are very excited to know I had my first appointment with my new doctor this past Friday and I’m doing great! We’ve got some more “He said, She said” planned, I’ve got some reviews to type up, as well as others lined up. As of June 1st I’m officially back!
